Joe Amato worked in the brickyards from the age of 9 years old, first employed at the Schultz Brick Manufacturing Company in East Kingston, and then at The Hutton Company. He worked his way up through the company and eventually helped to found the Brick Handler’s Union, serving as its President in the 1950-1960s. Outside of the brickyards, Joe was well respected within the community, known for his charismatic personality, his commitment to always helping neighbors in need, and his freshly ironed suits and signature fedora. Later in life, Joe opened several successful restaurants in the area.
