About us

Brickmen Kitchen + Bar offers modern dining that puts a global spin on local Hudson Valley flavors. Founded by restaurateur Dave Amato, we offer lunch, dinner, and drinks in a warm atmosphere with a vintage vibe.

The name “Brickmen” was inspired by Kingston’s rich industrial history and Dave Amato’s grandfather, Joseph “Joe” Amato, who was affectionately known as “Skookie” and “Papa Joe.” In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, infrastructure projects in the Hudson Valley and New York City were booming, making brickmaking a big business in Kingston. The brickyards offered employment for many European immigrants, and Joe Amato was among them.

Joe Amato worked in the brickyards from the age of 9 years old, first employed at the Schultz Brick Manufacturing Company in East Kingston, and then at The Hutton Company. He worked his way up through the company and eventually helped to found the Brick Handler’s Union, serving as its President in the 1950-1960s. Outside of the brickyards, Joe was well respected within the community, known for his charismatic personality, his commitment to always helping neighbors in need, and his freshly ironed suits and signature fedora. Later in life, Joe opened several successful restaurants in the area.

Brickmen Kitchen + Bar embraces the rich history of Kingston with its ambiance. The restaurant was designed by Jackson Creative Group with an open kitchen format, providing indoor and outdoor dining options, including an outdoor bar and deck. Certified Master Chef Dale Miller is our consulting chef. Chef Miller is one of only 68 Certified Master Chefs in the United States, and he is also a Fellow of the Culinary Institute of America’s Alumni Board.

We invite you to pull up a chair, meet with old friends, or make some new ones!
